A Porcelain Crown Restoration Might Be Needed to Repair a Tooth in Your Smile

Posted .

The teeth in your smile typically have shallow tooth enamel, compared to the premolars and molars in the back of your mouth. When a chip or modest area of tooth decay develops on one of these front teeth, the compromised area of tooth enamel might be too large for Dr. Damon Wright to viably secure a filling at Wright Family Dentistry in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

To effectively treat a problem like this, Dr. Damon Wright might recommend replacing the entire tooth enamel layer with a porcelain crown. This process starts by removing the existing tooth enamel layer to create an abutment. This leaves behind the healthy dentin layer within the tooth.

Once this is done, Dr. Damon Wright will form an impression of all the related dental structures in the area. This will be sent to a professional dental lab where is a replica of the original tooth enamel is made from special dental-grade porcelain. Then a temporary crown is secured over the abutment to protect it.

We will call you back in for a follow-up appointment when your porcelain crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed and your permanent crown will be cemented onto the abutment with a strong dental adhesive.
